U.S. Travelers – Entry Requirements

To enter the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI), travelers must meet the following requirements:

COVID-19 Testing:

Travelers aged five or older must submit a COVID-19 test result before travel. A negative result is required.

Passport:

U.S. citizens arriving from Puerto Rico or the U.S. mainland do not need a passport; all other travelers require a passport.

Green QR Code:

As of June 1, 2022, travelers are no longer required to complete the USVI Travel Screening Portal or present an approved green QR code.

Vaccination:

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is not required for entry.

  • Bring reef-safe sunscreen to protect coral ecosystems. 
  • Casual island attire is common, but dress respectfully in towns and restaurants.

Official Currency

  • United States Dollar (USD)
    The same currency used in the mainland United States. Credit cards are widely accepted, especially in tourist areas, and ATMs are available throughout the islands.

Several airlines operate flights from the United States to the U.S. Virgin Islands, including:

  • American Airlines – Multiple routes from major cities (e.g., Atlanta, Boston) to St. Thomas
  • Delta Air Lines – Regular flights to USVI destinations
  • United Airlines – Connections from Washington Dulles and Newark to St. Thomas
  • Spirit Airlines – Direct flights from Fort Lauderdale to St. Thomas
  • Southwest Airlines – Service from various U.S. locations
  • JetBlue Airways

Dress Code:

Swimwear is for the beach only; wear regular clothing when dining or shopping.

Environmental Respect:

Conserve water and power; do not remove sand, shells, or coral.

Beach Etiquette:

Avoid touching coral or stacking rocks for photos.

Entry Requirements for Non-U.S. Citizens

Vaccination:

Not required to board a flight to the United States/USVI (as of May 2023).

Testing:

Tests must be taken within 24 hours of travel (per stated guidance).

Passport:

Valid passport required for all non-U.S. citizens upon departure.

Visa Waiver Program (VWP):

Eligible nationals may travel up to 90 days for tourism/business without a visa or ESTA.

Health Requirements:

No proof of COVID-19 vaccination required for noncitizen, nonimmigrant air passengers (as of May 2023).
